Since its foundation in 1991
byPaulo Marinho, the band has gone through considerable development.
It began as a promoter of tradition Galician and Portuguese bagpipe
with street performances, parades and historical pageants.
In 1994 the group did a lot of experimenting with combinations of
sounds, repertory, harmony and orquestations. This lead to a concert
at the "centro Cultural de Belém" in Lisbon with
the groups "Ala do Namorados" and the "Danças
Ocultas". The "gaiteiros de Lisboa" also "opened"
for the rock band the "Sétima Legião" and
others.
THE FIRST CD, "Invasões Bárbaras",
come out in 1994 and was well received.
It was followed by invitation to perform in Portugal and Galicia
(northwest of Iberian Peninsula). They also appeared in TV Galiza.
In the same year they participated in Pierre Marie goulet's film,
"Pace et Salute", about the Corsican musicologist, Michel
Giacometti. This lead to projects with the Corsican polyphonic choral
"A Cumpagnia".
1997 saw them performing
at festivals in Rénnes, France "Les Tombées de
la nuit" and the "Festivoce" in Corsica.
THE SECOND CD - "Bocas do Inferno" come out in 1997 and
won the José Afonso prize. The Portuguese magazine "Blitz"
called it the best record of the year. A concert at the Frankfurt
Book Fair followed.
On 1998 they gave
concerts at EXPO' 98 alone and with the singer Sérgio Godonho
and the groups the "Aduf" and the "Tim Tim por Tim
Tum".
THE ALBUM ALIVE - The double CD "dançachamas" was
recorded live at the CCB in 200 with the goups the "Tocá
Rufar", the "Vozes da Rádio", the "Danças
Ocultas" and José Mário Branco.
On 2001 the CD
"Macaréu" appeared with the singer Pac Man from
the "Da Weasel". The group was officially recognized by
the Portuguese Minister of Culture.
FURTHER EXPLORATIONS - 2003
witnessed a series of concerts in Galicia, Andaluzia and the Canary
Islands.
On the 2005 the CD "Sátiro"
was published with participations of Mafalda Arnauth e Manuel Rocha.
In 2006 they opened
the WDR-Berlin, Prix-Europa Festival.
NEW DIRECTIONS
- Over the years the goup has played concerts and recorded with
other groups and singers such as Sérgio Godinho in the album
" o irmão do meio", Adiafa álbum "Está
o balho armado", Vozes da Rádio - "Mappa do coração",
as well as the galician groups Leilia, Xouteira e Treixadura with
whom they shered the project "Ponte nas ondas".
